MAINE METAL PRODUCTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship Description:

The Maine Metal Products Association Scholarship awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding record and overall potential to attend an institution of higher learning majoring in:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Machine Tool Technician
  • Sheet Metal Fabrication
  • Welding
  • CADCAM for Metals Industry

This scholarship is restricted to the study of metal working trades and will be used to pay tuition costs and textbooks only.

The Purpose of the Scholarship is two-fold:
  1. Provides a valuable community service by encouraging qualified applicants to pursue careers in the metal working industry.
  2. Provides the community and the Maine Metal Products Association member companies with a potential source of well trained metal working technicians and management personnel.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • The applicant must be a Maine resident and have a sincere desire to further their education in the metal working trades.
  • The applicant must be full-time students and maintain a minimum of a C average.
  • The winner of the scholarship award must have applied to enter a metal trades program at a Maine college in the fall and must be accepted as a student at that college.

Award Determination:
  • Personal qualifications of attitude, self-motivated initiative, seriousness of intent and overall impression.
  • Proven aptitude or demonstrated ability in the metal working trades.
  • High school and post secondary records - scholastic and extracurricular activities.
  • Sponsorship from a metal working company doing business in Maine.

Award Amount:
Varies; determined by the selection committee.

Application Deadline:
All application materials must be submitted to MES and postmarked by April 18, 2008. Winners will be notified in writing by the Maine Metal Products Association by July 2008.

Application Requirements:
  • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent, or expected graduation date and school name.
  • Copy of high school and post secondary transcripts.
  • At least one letter (two preferred) of recommendation from another source outside of your family e.g., clergy, teacher, town leader, business person, employer, etc.
  • In your own words, describe your goals, aspirations and accomplishments. Why and how did you decide on a career in metal working? Why do you think you should receive this scholarship? (use separate sheet, maximum one page)
