Maine Loanis MELA's private alternative
loan. With an interest rate of 8.43% and other
features, such as the ability to defer principal payments (interest payments are required)
while the student is in school and longer repayment periods,
it is the most attractive alternative loan for Maine families.
The Maine Medical Loan was introduced in 1998 to help medical students bridge the gap between the amount that they can borrow through federal loan programs and the full cost of medical school. It has the most competitive rates and most flexible payment terms of any medical alternative loan.
The Maine Medical Education Foundation (MMEF) Loan Program was established in the 1960's by the Maine Medical Association (MMA) to make loans available to Maine residents pursuing a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). This loan offers a low, fixed interest rate during loan repayment.
The IDSVA Private Loan was established in 2010 by Maine Education Services to make loans available to IDSVA students pursuing a doctoral degree in philosophy, aesthetics, and art theory. This loan offers a fixed interest rate of 8.5% for the life of the loan.
